Instagram Image & Video Size Guide

It’s easy to get ahead of yourself when you’re trying to find success on Instagram. You focus on great-looking content that people will love, and that’s super important, however, you also need to think about image size or all your hard work would have been in vain as it will be resized to fit their requirements, leading to drops in image quality. So, here is our guide to Instagram image sizes.

While people used to be limited to basic square posts, over time, the company has heard the pleas of their users and relented to other forms. Your options now include square (1:1), landscape (1.91:1), and portrait (4:5).

The optimal image size is 1080x 1080px for square, 1080x 608px for landscape and 1080x 1350px for portrait.

Video may be a better way to connect to your audience and Instagram supports an aspect ratio of 1.91:1 to 4:5. The optimal sizes are 1080x608px for the former and 1080x1350px for the latter.

Additionally, please ensure that the videos are 30 frames per second, 60 seconds in length, and no bigger than a file size of 4 GB.

Instagram Stories allow you to quickly and casually engage with your followers and has proved to be a very popular option. Stories allow for aspect ratios of 1.91:1, 4:5, and 9:16, but we need to stress that the last two options are the most recommended.

Finally, IGTV must be vertical, this is an absolute requirement, and the aspect ratio should be between 4:5 and 9:16. On the other hand,  Instagram Live and Reels are similarly shot vertically but must be 9:16 only. So you need to choose which works best for your brand.

If you want to ensure your visuals are seen in the best light, then it’s crucially important to know your right image sizes. Hopefully, now you’ll have a firm grasp on the aspect ratios so that your social media marketing campaigns can excel.
